Dr Martin Besser completed his basic medical training in Germany (University of Ulm, Germany 1998) and has worked in the UK since 2000. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. He is a member of the British Society of Haematology and the International Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis. Dr Besser is a previous recipient of the Baxter - Royal College of Pathology Training Fellowship in Coagulation (2006). He works as a consultant physician at the Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) and Royal Papworth Hospital in haematology with a special interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Haemoglobinopathy, Immunohaematology, Anaemia, Perioperative and Intensive Care Haematology and Transfusion. He is a fully certified Physician Builder for EPIC and the EPIC specialty lead for Medical Haematology at CUH and he is the Specialty Lead for Medical Haematology. He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Cambridge and has been the training programme director of Haematology in the East of England from 2014 to 2018.
