NNEdPro 4th International Summit: Conference on Medical and Public Health Nutrition Education and Research
NNEdPro's 4th International Summit: Conference on Medical and Public Health Nutrition Education and Research will be held on 20th July 2018 at the Clinical School on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, bringing together experts from the field to strengthen and promote international initiatives and exchange knowledge on medical nutrition education and research.
The conference is comprised of three main plenary sessions around the theme of ‘Nutrition as a Hard Science to International Knowledge Application Networks’. These plenary sessions are supplemented by an interactive panel discussion and a final session to sum up proceedings and define the road ahead.
Session 1: Nutrition as a Hard Science
The conference will start with the launch of the new journal BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health including a Keynote Speech from Fiona Godlee (Editor-in-Chief, The BMJ).
Expert speakers will then define examples of the hard science on which nutrition is based as well as exploring both the causes and potential cures to the challenge of embedding sound nutrition knowledge in a utilisable evidence base.
Session 2: Implementation Science
Registered Dietitians trained to implement nutrition knowledge clinically are small in number and therefore multidisciplinary training of healthcare professionals are of vital importance in public health and health service delivery.
This session will incorporate ‘work in progress’ case studies using implementation science principles to strengthen the provision and delivery of nutrition related services in a variety of healthcare contexts.
Interactive Panel Discussion
An interactive panel discussion will explore potential strategies to navigate barriers as well as harness opportunities to translate nutrition knowledge into healthcare practice through education and training.
Session 3: Meeting Global Nutrition Challenges
‘Meeting Global Nutrition Challenges’ will share interrelated strands of international work-in-progress requiring carefully coordinated inter-sectorial efforts that can together address issues cutting across different agro-ecological areas with varying population distributions of food insecurity and nutrition-related disease. Insights from the GODAN-NNEdPro Nutrition Open Data Strategy will also be discussed.
The final session will announce the winning entries for the conference poster competition and will outline the mentoring scheme of the International Academy of Nutrition Educators as a key step towards capacity building. This will be complemented by an ambitious plan to develop an International Knowledge Application Network in Nutrition aligned with UN 2025 goals. Winning entries from the 2018 Essay Competition will provide food for thought regarding the best strategies on this road ahead.
