Dr Jonathan Nicholls
Principal administrative officer of the University of Cambridge
Jonathan Nicholls is the Registrary – the principal administrative officer of the University of Cambridge.
Prior to taking up this appointment in October 2007, he was the Registrar and Secretary at the University of Birmingham and, prior to that, Registrar at the University of Warwick.
He was educated at the University of Bristol where he took his first degree, the University of Cambridge where he was awarded a PhD, and Harvard University where he was a Herchel Smith scholar.
Jonathan is a Governor appointed by the University of Cambridge to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He currently chairs the Governors' Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
He has been closely involved in University and Hospital relationships throughout his career, having served as Non-Executive Director of the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust through the period of the establishment of a new medical school at the University of Warwick and, more recently, representing the University of Birmingham on the project board for the rebuilding of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
Jonathan is the national Deputy Chair of his professional association and a member of various national bodies concerned with pay and pensions in the higher education sector. He is also a Governor of the Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge.
